winter adventures

Ya know what I love about winter, you can get around so many places that you usually can't. With snowmobiles, you can go anywhere you want, roads or not. And I love exploring swamps in the winter when you can get anywhere you want on the ice where you usually can't. Explore the areas in and around the cattails and bullrushes, just traveling where ever you choose. The pups and I went for a hike at Kootenai National Wildife Refuge and had a great time. At one point several hundered geese took flight from a field nearby, wow, the sound of their wings, it was like a helicopter starting up. And all the honking as they circled above. And the dogs found a dead two spiked deer, full skull and antlers, but alittle too pewny to keep. Lots of deer tracks across the ice, along with lots of coyote tracks and several places with left over duck parts from where a coyote got a hard earned meal I imagine. It was a mostly dreary overcast day but we had alot of fun visiting nature. One day I'll get a nice camera and can share more. Both dogs have been snoozing all evening, nice.

bald eagles

I had 4 bald eagles on the lake this morning bathing in the few inches of water on top of the ice. Couldn't get a good picture with no camera but reminded me of these photos I took recently.

I worked at an Eagle Watch event on Lake Coeur d'Alene over the holidays. Its a annual event put on by the IDFG, BLM, and USFS. It's an educational event for the puclic to stop, learn about the eagles and watch the many eagles who stop on the bay for a month or so as the Chinook salmon spawn. There were at least 20 birds we had at our location hanging out all day. We were set up at a boat launch area and the eagles would dive and catch fish right in front of us, then find a perch to eat.


We had telescopes so we could see them real well even across the bay.
I took the photos through the telescop on a cell phone! Not bad!


The next two are similar photos cropped. Oh, this is an immature, they don't get their white head and tail until 3-4 yrs old! People often confuse juviniles with golden eagles.


This one was about half a mile away! No kidding.


Oh, yeah, and they came up and landed next to us!

I know it is a week later but I had a great new years. It was awesome to have the chance to see everyone. Being a suprise pain in the ass to friends at 11:30 pm is good fun. I'm lucky I didn't get ate by several dogs (not even a huh). Must have been my good luck fortune, that will hopefully follow me the rest of the year. Or my ninja stelth skills.

I worked Luna for Mary at the Fun Day and she did great. I know that made Mary's day. Mary and Jodi and I went to go find hot springs on Sat. but not suprisingly there were like 20 cars there and no room to park...and who would want to cram into a hotspring shoulder to shoulder? Total downer but we had a fun day in the snow anyways and we will just have to try again.

I had a lesson with Dianne and it was awesome. Reena and I are starting to drive and starting to get it, which was so awesome because it has been so frustrating not working her or making any progress in the last year or two. And driving opens up a whole nother world. Hoping to have time to work more this spring.
